Dhanya M B is working as Associate Fellow (Faculty) at the VV Giri National Labour Institute (VVGNLI). She has obtained PhD from University of Kerala in Economics on the topic of Empowering Rural Women: A study on Kudumbashree beneficiaries of Kerala. She is the Associate Coordinator of the Centre for Agrarian Relations and Rural Labour in VVGNLI. She also coordinates training programmes on different subjects like Research Methods on Gender issues in Labour, Course on various methods in Microfinance Research, Youth Employability Skills, Leadership Development, Social Security, etc. She has completed two research projects on ‘Gender Statistics (2012)’ and ‘Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work and informal sector in India (2013)’, published in NLI research study series. She is currently involved in the evaluation of the centrally sponsored scheme “Establishment of Multi Skill Development Centres at Banglore and Gulbarga”.
 
 She authored a book titled ‘Rural Women Mobilisation in the Empowerment Process: An Experience from Kerala State, India’ and also published several research articles in different journals in national and international level and chapters in edited books. Some of her recent articles includes: “Rights at Work and Informal Economy in India: Recent Trends and Challenges” (2014, forthcoming), “Changing Trends of Gender in Labour Force: Exploring through Labour Statistics”(2012), “Engendering Labour Statistics:  A Cross Country Comparison of Gender Differentiated Statistics”, “Role of Corporate Social Responsibility in Managing social issues – perspectives from Capability Approach” (2011), “Multidimensional Poverty Index: Relevance and application in Indian Context” (2011), “Violence against women: A Paradox” (2011), “Inclusive growth through financial inclusion (2011), “Youth empowerment through microfinance: A case study on Yuvashree programme of Rural Kerala”(2011), “Micro finance, Women Empowerment and Banking Habit: Perspectives on Kerala"(2010), “Human Rights and Gender Equality (2010), “Indian Youth and Demographic Transition” (2010) etc. She has also published book review on Globalisation, Development and Transition: Conversations with Eminent Economists in Capital & Class. She has presented research papers in national and international conferences organized by IGIDR, IRMA, RGNIYD, French Institute, Institute of public enterprises etc on various themes like Indebtedness and Social Exclusion, Relevance of Policy Reforms on Development: Challenges before Emerging Economies, Redesigning social science research: Suitable methodologies for public action, to mention a few. She has been in the editorial board of Awards Digest, Journal of Labour legislation.
