Ellina Samantroy
is working as Associate Fellow, at V.V.Giri National Labour
Institute,Noida. She has PhD from Centre for Study of Social
Systems, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru
University, New Delhi. She has also completed her M.A and
MPhil from CSSS/SSS, JNU, New Delhi. Before joining this
institute she was Assistant Professor, Department of
Sociology, Vasant Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Banaras Hindu
University and has taught there for 6 years. She is the associate co-ordinator for Gender and Labour at the VVGNLI.
She has published
number of research papers in reputed academic journals and
newspapers and chapters in edited volumes. Some of her recent
articles published are Weaving Industry in Crisis: A Case
Study of Weavers Of Varanasi City, March (2011)
Structural Violence and Gender, 2010. She has also
authored and published two course books entitled Sociology
of Indian Society and Social Problems for M.A. Distance
Learning in Sociology published by Vikas Publishing House, New
Delhi in 2011.Some of her other works under publication is a book entitled Globalisation and Social Change and chapters entitled Women Empowerment and Gender Inequality in
Orissa: Issues and Challenges in the Context of Millenium
Development Goals to be published in an edited volume by
Eurasian Foundation, Contemporary Odisha:Vision and Reality in
2011. Some other chapters entitled Structural Violence
Against Women: Reflections on Countering Violence Through
Non-Violence and Peace-building, Structural Violence and
Women: Indian Women Confronting Gender Violence are under
publication.
She has presented
many research papers in both International and National
Conferences and participated in many workshops and Training
Programmes. She has also delivered special lectures at Arjun
Singh Centre for Distance Learning, Jamia Millia Islamia and
Malviya Centre for Peace Research, Banaras Hindu University.
Her research interests include Sociology of Gender, Youth and
Development Studies, Sociology of Work and Urban Sociology. |
